Crunchy Apple Crumble

Introduction - This is a healthy dessert containing apples, dry fruits, oats and the kids just love it.
: 10 minutes
: 20 minutes
: 8-10 servings
For the sauce
2-3 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Juice of half lemon
Few drops of water
For the crumble
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
2-3 teaspoon white sugar (optional)
Pinch of cinnamon
1/3 cup unsalted butter
Pinch of salt
Cereal like muesli OR oats OR granola
Raisins, dried cranberries, currants, almond slivers.
Chop the apples to very small pieces. Leave the skin on.
In a saucepan, take the ingredients listed under sauce, except apples. Allow the sugar to caramelize. Once it starts bubbling, add the apples. Cook the apples till they are soft but not mushy.

In a bowl take the ingredients listed under crumble except cereal. Knead the butter into the dry ingredients with your fingers to get a bread crumb like mixture.
Add the cereal and dry fruits or nuts.
In a bread pan OR baking dish, layer the apple sauce. Cover it completely with the crumble mixture.
Season with fruit and nuts
Bake in the oven at 200 degree Celcius for 12-15 minutes or until the crust becomes golden brown.
Spoon the crumble and serve as a dessert. Very good option for the snack box to school. Also you can add a spoon or two of this to your regular bowl of cereal with milk.
