Cinnamon Apple Compote

Your regular oatmeal with a fruity twist. Sure to have the kids smacking their lips.

Cinnamon Apple Compote


Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time:15 minutes
Makes: 1 serving

Ingredients
1 small apple OR pear, diced
A pinch of powdered cinnamon
Dried apricots, raisins, sultanas- to taste
1/2 cup quick cooking oats (vary as per your regular portion size)
1/2 cup milk (as required to adjust consistency)
Brown sugar to sprinkle

Method
In a saucepan, boil diced apple with little water. The apple will let out its own juices, hence only 2-3 spoon fulls of water is adequate.

Add cinnamon powder to this and let the apples cook till soft. Sugar is ideally not required as the sweetness in the fruits is sufficient.

Add some dried sultanas, raisins, apricots as per your preferences.

When the apple is half-cooked, start cooking the instant oats as per packet instructions. Alongwith the specified quantity of milk, add 1/2 cup boiling water. This will make the oats creamier and smoother.

Oats and fruit compote would be ready at almost the same time.

In a bowl, pour the oatmeal. Top it up with the apple mixture. Pour any sauce that has oozed out. Garnish with some nuts (optional) and sprinkle some brown sugar.
