Add this cheese sauce to pasta, fish or chicken and vegetables to make a tasty dinner
Cheese sauce makes a great addition to many baby recipes or just to add to some pasta. Rather than preparing each time you need it, it's just as easy to make a larger quantity and then freeze extra in portions.
As well as making everything taste great, cheese has nutritional benefits too. You probably won't be surprised that it's a rich source of calcium. What I didn't know is that it provides vitamins A,D and B12 as well as protein.
Gradually add the flour, a little at a time and stir until it's fully mixed with no lumps.
Once all the flour has been added, cook for 1 minute. Keep stirring so that it doesn't stick to the pan base. This butter and flour mix is known as a roux. It's a French term and it's what will give the cheese sauce it's thickened consistency.
Gradually add the milk and stir until thoroughly combined with the roux.
Cook for another couple of minutes, bringing the white sauce to the boil.
Grate the cheddar cheese and pour into the white sauce.
Stir until the cheese has melted fully.
You can now add the cheese sauce into whatever dish you are preparing or freeze in portions to be used at a later date.
