Banana pops are the perfect way to use up extra bananas, they are cool, easy to make and far better than eating ice cream or sugary treats to cool down; they are great for a hot summer day.
They also have the benefit of being perfect for the teething toddler, giving them something cold to help relieve the pain of cutting a new tooth that they can hold and bite down on whenever they want to.
Preparation Time: 1 minute
Cooking Time: 2 hours (to freeze)
Makes: 2 servings
Ingredients
1 ripe banana
2 paddle pop sticks, food grade
Method
Place your banana in the freezer. This is a perfect way to preserve any bananas you have left over that may otherwise get overripe and ruined.
Take banana out once it is frozen. Bananas can last months in the freezer, so you can simply put some aside next time you get a lot on special, or put some in especially to make banana pops.
They don't look very nice once they're frozen as the skin turns black, but inside the banana is beautifully preserved.
Peel the skin off the banana. It will be very cold so have a bowl of warm water nearby to warm your fingers if they get too cold.
Cut banana in half and put on a paddle pop stick. This is important for little hands so they don't get cold as the banana does stay cold for a while once out of the frozen environment.
Make sure that the paddle pop stick is food grade and not just craft grade, because it will probably end up being chewed on, especially if given to a younger child.
Just great for little hands.
